Adrian is a member of the Crime team.

Crime: All areas.

Adrian has a wide range of experience in criminal law. He has been a grade 3 CPS prosecutor since 2006. Selected cases include:

  • Drug Offences

    Operation Beacon: Several cases, including trials and Newton Hearings, arising out of an undercover police test purchase operation.

    Liney: Possession with intent to supply of 5.5kg of cannabis.

    Griffiths: Successfully resisted the prosecution’s application for a confiscation order for £200,000 of alleged hidden assets.

  • Money Laundering

    Abowath: Concealing £105,000 of the proceeds of drug dealing.

  • Dishonesty and Fraud

    Higham: Instructed to defend Financial Adviser in £2.7M Fraudulent Trading (plea). He successfully resisted in its entirety the prosecution’s application for a confiscation order and successfully appealed the sentence in the Court of Appeal.

    Armsden: Prosecuted lorry driver charged with stealing £47,000 of goods (trial). After conviction, he successfully applied for a confiscation order including an order to pay several thousand pounds of hidden assets.

  • Sexual Offences

    Ahmed: Defended a man charged with trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence, with allegations involving a 13 year-old girl. (Acquitted after trial)

    Chen: Prosecuted a woman charged with Controlling Prostitution and brothel-running. Included successful application for a confiscation order.

    PB: Defended a case where a SOPO was sought on civil complaint by the police. Horsley Defended a man charged with indecently assaulting a girl between the ages of 8 and 14.

  • Violent Crime

    Duczynski: Defended a man charged with arson being reckless as to the endangerment of life, where the allegation was that the attack upon an occupied house was motivated by revenge.

    Rowlson: Prosecuted a serving police inspector for grievous bodily harm upon a woman (plea). The admitted allegations included cigarette burns, biting and fractured ribs.

Adrian has particular experience in drugs cases. He also has significant expertise in the field of confiscation law, both for prosecution and defence, and he has advised in civil cases on money laundering issues.

Other:

Adrian has represented many prisoners at ‘lifer panel’ hearings and before the parole board. He has also been instructed in cases where judicial review is sought of the parole board’s decisions.

Adrian is regularly instructed to review social services files for a number of local authorities in response to PII applications and disclosure requests by the police.

Adrian has received numerous instructions in matters concerning regulatory crime. These have included prosecutions for failure to comply with regulations under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and trading standards cases.

Adrian runs advocacy training courses within chambers for pupils and junior tenants. He also speaks at Chambers’ seminars.

Adrian plays cricket for a local village team. He is an avid Leeds United supporter and a fan of a number of American sports. He is also a keen saxophonist.
