Mary is a member of the Crime team.

Crime

Mary has 18 years of experience of prosecuting and defending criminal cases. Her areas of expertise are:

Rape. Multiple complainants, husband on wife, stranger rape, inter familial, accusations of rape against foster carers, adoptive parents, teachers and social workers. Rape of children, those with mental and physical disability. Sexual abuse. Historical accusations of sexual abuse including recovered memory syndrome within the extended family or in a care institution.

Child cruelty. Historical and recent accusations of physical and emotional abuse inter familial and in institutional settings.

Murder, including baby shaking.

Large scale frauds and deceptions. Defence of customs prosecutions, F.A.C.T and Trading Standards. VHCC cases, people smuggling, importation of drugs, importation of counterfeit goods, and money laundering.

Appeals following inadequate representation and miscarriage of justice cases.

Background

Mary wrote and performed in the BBC Sony Award winning series, Section 18.

She regularly lectures to the Association of Police Surgeons, to Forensic and Medico Legal Societies and to County Councils.

She lectures to defence solicitors in all aspects of criminal law. She teaches public speaking, voice projection and advocacy.
