Paul is a member of the Crime and Civil teams.

Crime

Paul has received instructions for both Prosecution and Defence work. He has been instructed in numerous cases in the Crown Court, primarily for the Defence. Selected cases are:

  • Perverting the Course of Justice

    Welland - Involved a 13 day trial at Nottingham Crown Court before Mr. Justice Teare (co-accused indicted for Murder)

    Sattar – Involved an 8 day trial at Leicester Crown Court before HHJ Lea (co-accused indicted with sexual offences involving a girl under 16, False Imprisonment and Kidnap)

  • Fraud

    Bhanji – Instructed as Junior Counsel for the defence in a Customs prosecution relating to the importation of counterfeit cigarettes to the value of £1million.

  • Money Laundering (VHCC)

    Afzal – Instructed as Junior Counsel for the defence in a case concerning the laundering of the proceeds of a massive drug empire run from Bradford. The key conspirator to supply drugs received a sentence of 25 years. Features of the case included “front” businesses, transfers between accounts and tainted gifts.

Paul also has experience of Drug Possession / Supply cases, Robbery, Assault, Public Order and Burglary – particularly where a forthright challenge to Police evidence is required. Paul sees early preparation and conferences as the key to a robust defence.

Civil

Paul has experience of County Court trials in personal injury, negligence and contractual matters. He has also been instructed to represent parties at Inquests and provide advice on quantum in personal injury cases.
